Day 9 - Goodbye Cortina, Hello Milan

From Cortina to Milan

With tears blocking our sight we had to leave Cortina. We took a cab so we could catch the first bus. We actually found a quicker and more simple way than the way we came in. We took a bus to Mestre (The part of Venice that is on land) and from there the familiar train on the Milan-Venice rail.

Hello Milan

Milan is a modern Metropolis but many of her buildings are quite old and give her a unique look. The public transportation is excellent providing both buses and a subway. The city also have an ugly face. We had the chance to encounter unpleasant situations regarding violence and theft and apparently the police doesn't care or afraid of the mafia.
As we reached Milan we bought a multiple entry ticket to the subway and took our first ride to the last hotel, Adler. The hotel was very cheap but quite horrendous. The place is managed by a Chinese family loaded with staring children. The elevator sounds like a dying man and the doors are manually closed. The rooms themselves were dirty and hair was everywhere including the bed. Breakfast was composed of unappetizing food and a week old pastries. What I'm trying to say is that don't let Milan tempt you with cheap hotels.

Big Milan

There are lots of attractions in Milan, most of them unfortunately weren't that amazing in my taste. The most interesting attractions are the Doumo, an interesting shopping center and the golden square.
The Doumo is a very impressive gothic cathedral, both from outside and inside. unfortunately for us the Doumo was renovated but we still enjoyed.

The impressive Doumo

"Galleria Vittorio Emanuel the second" is what I referred to as "an interesting shopping center". It is actually a cross of two streets but someone apparently invested some time on the roof and floor.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuel the second

Finally the "Golden Square" aka "Heaven for women". The square has a large amount of the most famous fashion designers shops across the world. Dafna had a hard time getting inside the shops since the prices are sky rocketing and she can't handle what she can't buy. But any person with a stronger resolution or a bigger purse will probably have so much fun.

Day Summary

Not a spectacular day. The highlight was the Doumo. It is defiantly a splendor but other than that it was a little disaponting.
